According to many DX-listeners, in Russia the delivery of letters and QSL-cards from foreign radio stations has sharply decreased this year. In addition, it is impossible to make a claim. Mail in Russia is not responsible for simple correspondence. Only registered letters can be tracked. Now every letter or QSL card is a holiday. If this trend continues, then the number of radio amateurs in Russia, which, listen to foreign stations will be reduced. But, as they say, hope dies last. (Anatoly Klepov-RUS, RUSdx #924 via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 14) Letters, parcels and postcards from abroad will first be sent to Yakutia. As it became known to Kommersant, FSUE Russian Post from January 1, 2017 takes extraordinary measures to regulate the flow of simple small packages - these are often used to deliver purchases from foreign online stores ... The Post of Russia informed postal administrations of the member countries of the Universal Postal Union that from January 1, 2017 incoming written correspondence should be delivered to the International Postal Exchange (MMPO) in Mirny. This is due to the "optimization of the logistics network," said in a letter dated December 5 from Deputy Director General of FSUE Russian Post Sergey Malyshev (a copy is from Kommersant). Under the definition of incoming mail correspondence, which is mentioned in the letter, all letters and postcards from abroad, as well as customized and simple small packages weighing up to 2 kg, were explained to "Kommersant" by an interlocutor familiar with the situation. According to the press service of the Russian Post, "MMPO in Mirny serves as an alternative entry point for unregistered mail from foreign postal administrations that do not wish to act in accordance with the procedures approved by the Post of Russia." The innovations will not affect EMS express parcels, parcel post, and delivery between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Community, specified in FSUE ... This, in particular, will allow "to deal with opaque mail flows coming to Russia from Southeast Asia not directly, But through a number of countries in Europe and the CIS "... What are the tariffs for unregistered small packages after processing in Mirny, on the "Post of Russia" they do not say: it will be discussed with foreign postal administrations ... The postal administration of the sender has a duty to deliver to MMPO, after that, Russian Post's planes will export international mail from Mirny, the source of Kommersant, who is familiar with the activities of Post of Russia, supposes. Hypothetically, postal companies can work through Mirny, but in fact it is a prohibitive action aimed at limiting parcelling traffic from China, he believes. "This is an attempt to raise prices for international incoming correspondence with investments," the source of Kommersant believes ... + Photo. In its recent 2017 World Press Freedom Index, Reporters Without Borders ranks Iran 2017 improved at place 165 of 180 countries and territories. This is a slight improvement (65.12 instead of 2016 66.52 negative points). The interactive world map () still colours the country in black for the worst category "very serious situation" : "Media freedom was one of the key demands of the revolution that toppled the Shah and swept Ayatollah Khomeiny to power in 1979, but it is a promise that has never been kept. The media are mostly under the Islamic regime's close control and there has been no let-up in the persecution of independent journalists, citizen journalists, and media outlets. Media personnel are still constantly exposed to intimidation, arbitrary arrest, and long jail sentences imposed by revolutionary courts at the end of unfair trials. Despite an improvement in its international relations, Iran continues to be one of the world's five biggest prisons for media personnel." () This complete schedule of Farsi programmes on short wave was prepared in April and May. It contains only those programmes expressively designated Farsi / Persian, although Farsi, Dari and Tajik have a certain kinship and mutual intelligibility. For this reason, however, it does not include the broadcasts of the Tajik Radio, as I found very different broadcast schedules for the international service. There are no HFCC entries here, which would have been the basis for the verification of Farsi broadcasts by own listening. Some shortwave services such as BSKSA and Radio Cairo are only on paper, although Farsi broadcasts from Radio Pakistan still exist on the internet. The most important foreign services for Iran are the US-American Radio Farda and the Farsi service of the BBC London. According to the HFCC files, an extension was planned for the latter as of 1 May. This did not happen (yet?). The thirty minutes programmes of BBC and other stations like NHK are heavily word oriented. Today's dominance of Islam in Iran hardly leaves room for the historical reminder that Persia was an important country in the history of Eastern Christianity ("Nestorianism"). Today, Protestant Christian broadcasts in Farsi are broadcast by Adventist World Radio, IBRA Radio and Bible Voice. Trans World Radio has no shortwave broadcasts for Iran, but at you find "Through the Bible" and "Women of Hope" listed, which would otherwise be heard about TWR. The Christian programmes consist almost entirely of sermons. In comparison, the Bahai-station Radio Payam-e Doost with their music and the music-lined text passages sounds more light hearted, although the situation of Bahai in Iran is very serious. (hjb, May 2, 2017) KOREA D.P.R. [target radio broadcast] - Monitoring project on some Christian programmes to North Korea. In the DX press, the following programmes aimed at secret Christians in North Korea are often counted as "clandestine" programmes 1330-1530 7615 (Tashkent UZB 100 kW, 70 degr) Voice in the Wilderness 1530-1700 7510 (Tashkent UZB 100 kW, 76 degr) Voice of the Martyrs .... It should be remembered that there are more Christian shortwave programmes in Korean that are not labelled this way because they are broadcast by better known stations like Trans World Radio. During a listening project (at the end of April) the programs from Uzbekistan were only barely audible. I would not have tried to compile "programme details" for a regular reception report. On the other hand, the second programme also featured segments in simple English with Christian reflections being translated sentence by sentence into Korean. {RED Telecom Tashkent uses small band Rhombic antenna type, hence the signal strength at remote SDR installation at Netherlands Europe sidelobe azimuth - is much limited, wb.} The reception of Living Water Ministry is blocked by co-channel interference from the Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, broadcasting in Arabic from 1430-1730 hrs. Living Water Ministry rents its broadcasting time via Alyx & Yeyi, which makes a secret about the location of the transmitters and thus makes this programme look like a conspirational/clandestine venture. Following the example of other human rights indices, Christan advocacy group Open Doors regularly publishes a world index of persecution. For the 15th time in a row, North Korea was ranked as top persecutor of Christians... Radio network Lyubimoe Radio (Radio Favorite), which broadcasts in 17 cities of Ukraine, is reformatted and changes its name to Power FM. The corresponding changes were approved on May 12 by the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting. The National Council reissued the licenses of two of the three companies united in the network Lyubimoe Radio PE "Company" New Wave "and PE" TRK "Center". A statement of Radio Sharmanka, which is also part of the network, moved to the next meeting due to the fact that the apparatus of the National Council did not manage to prepare draft decisions. The radio network changes not only the name "Favorite radio" on Power FM, but also the software concept: the volume of information- analytical and journalistic programs will decrease from 45 minutes to 30 minutes per day, the selection of music - from 7:00 to 5:00 per day, And the volume of entertainment and music programs increased from 10:00 to 13 hours 15 minutes per day. In addition, the radio network is reoriented from Russian-language and Ukrainian-language music to European: more than 60% of the songs on its air will compose songs in the languages of the European Union - it means that it will have a lower quota for songs in Ukrainian (25% instead of 35% for two years). The radio station Power FM already worked in Ukraine from 2002 to 2004. In 2004, it was reformatted on Radio Sharmanka, which developed into a nationwide radio network. In 2014, "Sharmanka" was reformatted to "Favorite Radio." Now the radio station returns to its first name. Lyubimoe Radio (and now Power FM) is a part of Radio Business Holding Radio Group (other assets are "Chanson", DJ FM, "Business Radio"). The ultimate beneficiaries of the radio network are the head of the Business Radio Group, Antony Evtukhov (indirectly controls 50% of Radio Sharmanka Ltd, owns 100% of TRK Center LLC and 10% of Novaya Volna LLC), his wife Larisa Yevtukhova (indirectly Controls 25% of Radio Sharmanka Ltd, owns 90% of Novaya Volna Company LLC) and father of People's Deputy Vitaly Khomutynnik Yuri Khomutynnik (indirectly controls 25% of Radio Sharmanka LLC) (Source: Portal "Media detector"). http://proradio.org.ua/news/2017may.php (via RusDX 14 May via DXLD) PUBLICATIONS ++++ WRTH A-17 UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE FREE Sean Gilbert just wrote on the WRTH Facebook group: WRTH has now released the A17 International broadcasting schedules file. DAVID EDWARD HUGHES (16 May 1831 - 22 January 1900), was a British- American inventor, practical experimenter, and professor of music known for his work on the printing telegraph and the microphone. He is generally considered to have been born in London but his family moved around that time so he may have been born in Corwen, Wales. His family moved to the U.S. while he was a child and he became a professor of music in Kentucky. In 1855 he patented a printing telegraph. He moved back to London in 1857 and further pursued experimentation and invention, coming up with an improved carbon microphone in 1878. In 1879 he identified what seemed to be a new phenomenon during his experiments: sparking in one device could be heard in a separate portable microphone apparatus he had set up. It was most probably radio transmissions but this was nine years before electromagnetic radiation was a proven concept and Hughes was convinced by others that his discovery was simply electromagnetic induction (source? via May/June Medium Wave News 63/02 via DXLD) RUSSIAN "RADIO DAY" 122 years since the radio receiver was demonstrated, Saint Petersburg Russian physicist Alexander Stepanovich Popov demonstrated the Popov lightning detector, a primitive radio receiver, to the Russian Physical and Chemical Society on May 7, 1895. (See 1989 USSR stamp depicting the demonstration, right) Popov in the early 1890s began conducting experiments along the lines of Heinrich Hertz's research. In 1894, he built the first radio receiver, which contained a coherer. He further refined the design as a lightning detector. A paper on his work was published in December 1895, but he did not apply for a patent for his invention. In March 1896, Popov transmitted radio waves between different campus buildings in St Petersburg. In 1898, Popov realized ship-to-shore communication over a distance of 6 miles and then over 30 miles a year later in 1899. In 1900 a radio station was established under Popov's instructions on Hogland Island (Suursaari) in the Baltic Sea to provide two-way communication by wireless telegraphy between the Russian naval base and the crew of the battleship General-Admiral Apraksin. In some parts of the former Soviet Union May 7 is celebrated as Radio Day as Popov has generally been recognized in Eastern Europe as the "inventor of radio," in contrast to the West's recognition of Marconi and Tesla. Popov's work on the emission and reception of signals by means of electromagnetic oscillations built upon Nikola Tesla's accomplishments demonstrated in 1893. Guglielmo Marconi received a patent for radio in 1896, but his device is widely thought to be based on various earlier techniques of other researchers, including Tesla, and resembled instruments demonstrated by others, including Popov. The three inventors are among a small group of scientists and engineers who had a hand in the invention of radio. Radio Day (Russian: Den' Radio), Communications Workers' Day (as it is officially known in Russia) or Radio and Television Day (as it is known in Bulgaria) is a commemoration of the development of radio in Russia. It takes place on 7 May, the day in 1895 on which Alexander Popov successfully demonstrated his invention (source? via May/June Medium Wave News 63/02 via DXLD) RADIO IN THE WORLD In the world there are more than 51 thousand radio stations and more than 2.4 billion radio receivers. A radio signal can be received by at least 75% of households in developing countries and most of the inhabitants of developed countries. https://vk.com/rtrs_info (RusDX 14 May via DXLD) BROADCASTING IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE ================================= South Korea -------------------- Message from the World Radio KBS about test transmissions at 12065 kHz. Izyumov, Moscow, Russia) NEW TECHNOLOGIES =================== MP3 officially became free. ------------------------------------------------- The Institute of Integrated Circuits of the Fraunhofer Society officially "said goodbye" to the codec and the format of MP3 files. The term of key patents related to MP3, expired at the end of April. This is reported by National Public Radio. MP3 (MPEG-1 Layer III) is a popular codec and audio file format, widely supported all over the world. The vast majority of developers of media players (both programs and stand-alone devices) include support for MP3 in their product. It is worth noting that different patents relating to MP3 belonged to different companies, which gave rise to constant disputes and courts. As a result, some device manufacturers (for example, MP3 players) did not pay for the MP3 license at all, while others paid deductions of several tens of cents per device. And Alcatel-Lucent, for example, sued Microsoft for $ 1.53 billion. In a statement by the Institute for Integrated Circuits of the Fraunhofer Society, it is said that the licensing program associated with MP3 patents has been officially terminated. According to the Institute, the future is for codecs that compress audio more efficiently: for example, AAC or MPEG-H being developed. Despite the fact that National Public Radio reports "official death" of MP3, in fact, the expiration of patents (and the termination of the licensing program) means that MP3 support can be embedded in their products without any deductions to organizations that own patents. Recently, one more common technology - Adobe Flash Player - has officially passed away. The product was repeatedly criticized for a large number of known vulnerabilities in the code and Adobe in late 2015 recognized the victory of HTML5 over Flash.
