February 12, 2019 Recently I was looking through my old DX broadcast monitoring logs. I began organizing and identifying received radio stations, as well as recording brief contents of radio broadcasts, in 1987. Before that, he was limited to short and irregular entries. For more than thirty years, there have been more than enough DX magazines. It's time to write memoirs based on them. By the way, in the 80s of the last century in the USSR, the formation of groups of radio observers began, positioning themselves as diexists. Here is a characteristic picture on the title page of my journal of radio broadcast observations for 1987 - 1989. In general, the history of amateur radio and, specifically, radio observers, as they were called then, began in the distant 20s of the 20th century. And, we must pay tribute, in the USSR amateur radio and other types of technical creativity were very widely developed and were supported in every possible way by the state. At the end I will give a few photos of pages from the magazine. I foresee that many forum users will ask a completely appropriate question: why did I need fairly detailed recordings of news broadcasts? It's just that in those years I worked as a lecturer at the All-Union Society "Znanie", and, taking into account such factors as glasnost and perestroika, proclaimed in those years, these notes provided me with invaluable help. In the 80s, extremely scant information about DXing had to be extracted from periodicals and radio programs for DXers. Such programs were on radio stations: Svoboda, Voice of Sweden, Interradio Romania, BBC, Spanish Radio, etc. And based on these data, create a schedule for radio stations in Russian. There was enough technical literature on modernization and modification of radio receiving equipment in those years. In the 70s, my main radio receiver for radio observations was "Kazakhstan", in the late 70s early 80s I had a "Volna-K" radio receiver, which was good for those years, and even later "Ishim", which I still have to this day, and is in excellent working order. The first two devices are lamps, and "Ishim" uses transistors. I still regret that in the difficult and turbulent 90s I sold an almost new Volna-K. But later I partially compensated for this loss by purchasing the last of the Mohicans of the USSR tube radio industry, the R-309 radio receiver. It is located at my dacha in perfect condition with all the modifications and still serves me faithfully. After modifications, this is an excellent device that I would not trade for anything. True, it has one drawback, these are its dimensions and weight, but I have enough space in the dacha. I would also like to find a digital scale for it. The only suitable option is "TsSh - 04", but, alas, I can't find it. I still have pleasant memories of being "immersed" in the radio air of those years. Yes, yes, exactly "immersion". The airwaves were so "populated" with numerous radio stations from all over the world that sometimes a short summer night was not enough to review all the bands. This action was akin to traveling across countries and continents. Even judging by the records for 2008-2009, there were still quite a large number of radio stations on the air. But, starting from 2013-2014, there was a decline, and especially in the shortwave range. True, in recent years, there has been a slight increase in activity in the mid-wave, so-called. night range. And today I remain faithful to my old hobby. And the best relaxation for me remains to twirl the encoders of my favorites. Especially on summer evenings at the dacha. It is impossible to convey this incomparable feeling when you "fish out the call signs of a distant radio station on the air among the noise and interference. In a fairly short time, I have accumulated a good collection of radios, already more than 20 devices. And each has its own story: acquisition, repair, modernization, restoration. And they are all dear to me, each in their own way. For those who are interested in my collection, you can visit the archive forum of our website: http://old.dxforum.ru and then the Gazebo and Photo Album. True, it is not complete, but there is no particular desire to create a new album on the updated forum. My plans are to purchase a good professional radio receiver. But whether there is enough strength, finances, and, most importantly, health - time will tell. Consider the Icom IC-R8600. I already have the IC-R8500. I will be very glad if my short article will be useful and informative for you. And, especially for young DXers. Sincerely, Vladimir. At the same time, every radio amateur with known experience will be able to build a radio receiver using the materials in this book. The brochure contains descriptions of two homemade three-tube direct amplification receivers (mains and battery). The receiver circuits use selective positive and range-uniform negative feedback, which makes it possible to increase their selectivity without compromising the stability of the receivers. In terms of their design, the receivers are quite accessible for manufacturing by beginning radio amateurs. (https://vk.com/radioreceiver) * Once again I was asked a question: why are the frequencies 999 kHz and 1413 kHz not listed on the websites of Radio Russia and Vesti FM? -------------------------------------------------- ------------- I remind you of a simple answer. The customer of retransmission through JSC PRTC is the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network" From the point of view of VGTRK, these broadcasts do not exist. Because the holding company does not order or pay for these medium-wave broadcasts. Reference: A massive shutdown of Radio Russia CB transmitters occurred on February 1, 2015 OJSC PRTC - Pridnestrovian Radiotelecenter (part of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise RTRS) (Andrey Molokov, St. Petersburg, Russia / https://vk.com/public158109176) * The Golden Ether award ceremony took place. ---------------------------------------------- The awards ceremony for the winners of the main media award of the season, "Golden Broadcast," took place on May 29. STORY. ======================== - Radio receivers "Meridian RP-408" and "Meridian RP-308" -------------------------------------------------- ------------ Since 1984 and 1990, it was produced by the Kiev Production Association named after S.P. Korolev. ''Meridian RP- 408'' (until 1986 ''Meridian-408'') was created on the basis of the ''Selga-410'' model. ''Meridian RP-408'' is a small- sized, dual-band MW and LW superheterodyne, assembled on a microcircuit, a field-effect transistor, several resistors, capacitors, circuits and common radio units. Ranges: LW - 148...285 kHz, MW - 525...1607 kHz. Details in Russian + photo: https://www.rw6ase.narod.ru/index1/radiopriem/rp_pp/rp_pp2/meridian_rp308_408.html (http://www.rw6ase.narod.ru/) - Portable radio receiver "Meridian RP-309" -------------------------------------------------- - Since 1992, it has been produced by the Kiev plant "Radiopribor", named after Korolev. The radio receiver is designed for reception in the MW and VHF bands. The radio receiver is equipped with: an AGC and BSN system in the VHF range, a fine-tuning indicator in both ranges, it also serves to control the power supply, and a socket for connecting a miniature telephone. Power is supplied from 3 316 elements. Repeat: 2300-2400 UTC on 3955 kHz (best for East Asia remote listeners) June's program will feature music from Haiti and the Dominican Republic. FTIOM will be the second Saturday and UBMP the third thereafter. All of these are audible in parts of Russia, but apparently the antenna favors the south (Tambov, Saratov) - even the directional beam didn't help for the north. Since the 2300 on 3555 did at least land there, it might be worth trying the 1900 on 3955 to see how it performs.
