The signalman stands on one knee. He has a TAI-43 military field telephone in his hand, and a reel with a cable on his back. The sculptural composition depicts a military soldier in the uniform of the seventies of the last century: standing on one knee and holding a military field telephone in his hand, he embodies maximum concentration - two-thirds of the success of a military operation depends on his actions. October 19 was chosen as the opening day of the monument - this is a professional holiday for all those who, in wartime, provide communication between various units. The sculpture is dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the communications department, formed by order of the USSR Revolutionary Military Council. The monument "Military signalman", designed by the artist Kuklin, is installed on Sheinkman Street near the office of the mobile operator "Motiv". It was this company that was founded in 1996 by military signalmen, who, like no one else, understood the importance of the rapid transfer of information from person to person. The FM radio station of the Defense Ministry's media holding may be launched in the fall of 2021, the head of the department, Viktor Khrenin, said at a seminar in Brest. The minister said that the Ministry of Defense is considering the possibility of merging the VoentTV media-TV company belonging to him and the Vayar military information agency. The department plans to create additional channels for broadcasting on the Internet in video and audio formats. The Internet channel has already started broadcasting in test mode, the Internet radio station will start broadcasting on the Web in November. "By October 2021, the goal is to enter the FM radio station," Khrenin said. Personally, in two years I heard modulation only three times, and then more than a year ago. Judging by the sound quality, somewhere in the sound channel there is a device like a noise suppressor, whose settings have drifted away over time, and it began to completely crush not only the noise, but also the useful signal. Why the workers of the radio station for several years have not been able to find a fault and have wasted heating the air is a mystery. The transmitter most often turns on at about 2 am UTC (5 am Kyiv time), then turns off during the day. The work schedule is irregular, but a 4-day period can be traced. It seems that the duty shifts work in a "day after three" mode, and each has its own work schedule, which is also unstable. One of the shifts often leaves the transmitter on overnight. Today is just such a night, the next - from 16 to 17 October. I don't know how true this is, but it may well be. I wonder why they won't eliminate it? If there really is a squelch, then adjust, replace or remove it altogether. Voice of Tibet via Dushanbe, 1331, Oct 13. poor-fair signal with YL in lang at 1331 on this VOT-listed fqy at this time. Exotic-sounding musical breakers between items. 1335 cut carrier on this fqy to move elsewhere, as is their pattern to escape Chinese jammers. Only stays on one fqy five or ten mins at most. LATER: Found her! Moved to 9876 at 1335, and a much better signal here, same YL reading items and nice Tibetan shortie mx bursts. 1340 carrier cut again, off to hunt down her new fqy . . .Got her - at 1340 VOT moved to 9814, same YL, mx and then a taped OM with speech. This is kinda fun, like a treasure hunt. VOT is on the air 1300-1400 daily, and moves after five to ten minutes on any one fqy. Good thing is that at any given time, there is a limited number of fqys they will be using. For now here they are: 9899, 9896, 9894, 9886, 9884, 9876, 9874, 9864, 9814, 7496, 7494, 7486, 7476. Not too hard to check them until you find their next temp fqy. They are always on exact split fqy, too, like 9814.00. And now, 1355, I've lost em again .... - 9864, Voice of Tibet, via Dushanbe, 1302, Oct 15. starting out here today, found at 1302 with poor signal, OM and YL in pres Tibetan, narrating items with short mx burst separators, mushy audio. Jumped to new fqy at 1305, easily located as 9876. Orchl break 1307, then different OM takes over. Jumped to nf at 1310 which was found to be 9886. They are staying put on 9886, still there at 1324. Perhaps their theory is the first couple five minute switches will serve to shake the pursuing jammers? But fairly amazing how the Dushanbe relay station requires their engineers to play this game for VOT, a series of 5-minute xmsns on off-fqys, with the pattern frequently shifting. Must be a bit irritating for the technical staff. But maybe it's worth it to them perhaps they all just enjoy sticking it to China? - 9864 Voice of Tibet, Dushanbe, launching at 1300 on this fqy for today's hide-and-go-seek match. Always fun finding 'em. Poor signal. (Ralphus Perry, Wheaton-IL-USA, naswa via wor Oct 19) TURKMENISTAN Interesting information on LW 279 kHz Watan Radio (Turkmenistan) 279 kHz The transmitter in Turkmenistan is working, but modulation (sound), judging by the posts on the forums, is very rare (or very quiet). Radio-wave propagation, and therefore reception, naturally varies widely in different regions. Radio broadcasts from other stations often cause frequency overlap and severe interference, resulting frustration for the listeners. Radio stations, even from the neighbouring countries, may at times be difficult to hear. More difficult, often impossible, is to get a sort of verification (QSL) from many of these broadcasters. This era witnesses decaying number of radio stations; many of the existing broadcasters are increasingly reluctant to use traditional shortwave (SW) and mediumwave (MW)(AM) frequencies; and trying other modes to reach their audience. Stations of our nearby countries are no exception. The golden days of radiolistening/dxing will never return. Here I share some information of a few radio stations (from our neighbouring countries) worth trying for the serious listeners. Discussion is limited to SW and MW (AM) only; other modes are beyond scope of this article. Stations from China (PRC), one of the two big broadcasting nations in this region, are also not discussed for obvious reasons. Afghanistan: SW (irregular) on 6100 kHz, possibly now off-air. State run MW facilities are at Kabul (1107 kHz), Kandahar (1305 kHz) and (possibly) Khost (621 kHz). No qsl activity in recent years. Email: info@rta.org.af VOA (Radio Ashna/Azadi/Deewa/Mashaal) operates in MW from Kabul (1296 kHz) & Khost (621 kHz). Reception is fairly good and they occasionally issue e-qsl. Email: qsl@usagm.gov A few low-power regional stations are also operating as reported in the media. Bangladesh: Domestic service SW frequency 4750 kHz is well audible beyond target area; also uses 7250, 9455, 13580, 15105 & 15505 kHz frequencies for external service of "Bangladesh Betar"; occasionally issues qsl-card & letter. Email: rrc@dhaka.net, serrc@betar.gov.bd; Powerful MW stations are at Chattagram (873 kHz), Dhaka (630, 693 & 819 kHz), Khulna (558 kHz) & Rajshahi (846 kHz). Few less powerful MW stations (963, 999, 1053, 1170, 1287, 1314, 1413 & 1431 kHz) are also audible, particularly in e- & ne-India. Two more low-power MW frequencies (1080 & 1161 kHz) are now temporarily suspended. Bhutan: There is no MW broadcast from this country. SW transmission of state owned "Bhutan Broadcasting Service" is regularly heard on 6035 kHz in local morning and afternoon hours. Reception is good in e-, n-, & ne-India; also audible in other areas. Verifies with qsl-letter. Email: request@bbs.com.bt Maldives: "Dhivehi Radio" introduced MW service (on 1449 kHz) from Thilafushi near capital Male in recent years after a long gap. Almost regularly audible in s-India and nearby countries; reception is also sporadically reported from e- & ne-India. No qsl activity reported in recent time. Email: info@psm.mv Myanmar (Burma): "Myanma Radio" is well audible in both SW (5985 & 9730 kHz) and MW (576 & 594 kHz); issues e-qsl regularly. Email (for english programme): nptradio.eng@gmail.co NHK(Japan) & VOA broadcast through 5985 & 9730 kHz SW outlets of Myanma-Radio, mainly for local audience. "Thazin Radio" run by Myanmar defence ministry uses MW (639 kHz) and SW (6030, 6165, 7345, 9460 & 9590 kHz) facilities but does not respond to listeners. Nepal: "Radio Nepal" transmits in MW from multiple locations on 576 kHz (Surkhet), 648 kHz (Dhankuta), 684 kHz (Pokhara), 792 kHz (Bagmati), 810 kHz (Dipayal) & 1143 kHz (Bardibas). All are powerful and easily audible in n-, e- & ne-India, may be in other areas too. Unconfirmed SW activity on 5005 kHz was reported by a few listeners. No qsl activity in recent years. Email: info@radionepal.gov.np Pakistan: "Radio Pakistan" uses multiple MW frequencies, targeted mainly for its domestic service. Most are easily audible at late evening when powerful AIR stations sign-off. Notable MW frequencies are 540 (reportedly 300 kW but doubtful), 585 (500 kW), 630, 711, 1008, 1035, 1053, 1134, 1152, 1170, 1260 (400 kW) & 1332 kHz. No qsl activity reported in recent years. "FEBA Radio Pakistan" uses 6070 kHz in local morning hours only. Interestingly, they broadcast from transmitter located in Al-Dhabbiya (UAE) and not from Pakistan. Email: feba74@gmail.com A few small/pirate stations are reportedly in operation in MW (and possibly in SW also). Sri-Lanka: "SLBC", state run radio of Sri-Lanka, uses SW frequencies 9695, 11750 & 11905 kHz; some are regular and audible fairly well. Difficult to get qsl. Email: victorg.broadcaster@gmail.com, chmnslbc@slbc.lk, ddge@slbc.lk TWR-Asia uses 882 kHz MW frequency, with regular and powerful reception in s-India. Issues qsl regularly. Email: asiafeedback@twr.org BBC and FEBA use 9580 kHz SW and 1125 kHz MW respectively. AWR uses 1548 kHz MW and several SW frequencies (9470, 9740, 9810, 11755, 11790, 11805, 11870, 11925, 15150, 15305, 15410, 15430, 15530, 15550, 15610, 15630, 15705, 15715 & 17790 kHz). Issues e-qsl quickly and regularly. He is also an avid DXer and ham radio hobbyist. http://www.dxing.info/articles/Brazil_radio_collector.pdf Thanks Mika and Martin, for collaborating with hobby enthusiasts !! * "Killing" plugin for SDR # -------------------------- Youssef Touil, the French developer of SDRSharp, a popular software for SDR receivers, recently created a plug-in for it with a killer function: AM Co-Channel Canceller, which suppresses interfering stations within the same channel in the LW or MW bands. The first version of the plugin was included in SDR # v. 1766 dated 10/18/2020. The experience of using it and a brief instruction from the author are given in the publication: AirSpy SDR #'s New Killer Feature: the Co-Channel Canceller https://swling.com/blog/2020/10/airspy-sdrs-new-killer-feature-the-co-channel-canceller/ It describes cases where the frequencies of two stations are approximately 1 kHz apart from each other. This is not very impressive because with about the same success, you can listen to them almost without interfering with each other, receiving one of them in LSB mode, and the other in USB. However, after a couple of days, the author released an improved plugin as part of SDR # v. 1769. With his help, radio amateurs were able to suppress a strong station and listen under it to a weak one operating on the same frequency. A couple of good examples: 1) MW Co-Channel 620KHz test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-52Jhf8dw 2) SDR # Co-Channel Plugin Zero Offset https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j2XjqCWdJE This is already very impressive! The effect is as if using a directional antenna. But the antenna is normal, and the operator only turns on and off the plug-in by checking or unchecking the Enabled line (this can be seen in the videos). However, in order to achieve a good result, it takes a lot of tinkering with the settings, especially offset, and adjusting the IF filter bandwidth. But, having gained experience, I think it will be easy and fast. You can download the new version of SDRSharp here: https://airspy.com/download/. (Yuvalo, Russia / "deneb-radio-dx") 73!
