The station broadcasts around the clock. It is expected that in the near future the regional blocks of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "Mari El" The airing of new radio stations became possible thanks to the federal target program "Development of TV and Radio Broadcasting in the Russian Federation for 2009-2018". Over the years of its implementation, 31 communication facilities were built in Mari El. First of all, they were equipped with equipment for television broadcasting, but now RTRS signalmen are installing radio broadcasting transmitters at these facilities. In the coming year, equipment for broadcasting the radio station "Radio Russii" will be placed on 10 antenna-mast structures. This will significantly increase the coverage of the radio station and the number of its listeners in the republic. Unscheduled inspections of two radio stations On July 16, the National Council of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting appointed unscheduled inspect- ions of two radio stations, the Shanson radio network (TRK Shanson LLC) and the local radio Slavia (TRK Slavia LLC) from the city of Pologi, Zaporozhye region. During the monitoring, the National Council recorded that radio "Chanson" did not touch the song quotas: instead of 35% on one of the days from 15:00 to 22:00, 34% of the songs were broadcast in Ukrainian. Radio Slavia, according to the monitoring data, aired Oleg Gazmanov's song "Officers", although this singer is included in the List of Persons Who Threaten National Security, and broadcasters are prohibited from broadcasting works created with the participation of these people. (http://proradio.org.ua/news/2020jul.php) (RUS-DX #1091) [DXplorer] Russian Woodpecker I just listened to an old RN Media Network from 31 July 1986 https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/show/jonat- hanmarks/id/14813465 Wow, how I miss the superb content of that series! This one is particularly interesting, as it's about OTH Radar and CODAR. The latter, although not called CODAR then, was reported as a British invention, and meant to "hug the ocean's surface", while OTH used the ionosphere. I'm not at all sure that I agree with that. As for the Soviet Wood- pecker, they mentioned 3 sites in the USSR. The first, between Minsk and Kyiv and reported off the air. This is obviously the one near Chernobyl, which is so well known, and clearly abandoned after the nuclear melt down which had occurred only a few months earlier on April 26, 1986 That was unknown then. That site is very well documented with lots of videos and photos, but I hadn't heard of 2 other (presumably) identical sites mentioned. The second was on Sakhalin, but Robert Horvitz (of ANARC) states it's near Komsomolsk. I'm not aware of anywhere on Sakhalin with that name, but rather on the mainland closer to Khabarovsk, and the 3rd was really strange. He stated, north of the Black Sea and aimed at China. Did he mean Lake Baikal? My question is, has anyone seen evidence of these other 2 arrays? Google Earth should be pretty easy to see them, if they still exist. Horvitz (is he still around???) also mentions the US, with plans for 3 sites on the west coast, another in Maine, and another in the "North mid-west", ai- med to the Caribbean. Were these ever built? Japan, the UK, and Australia were also mentioned, with the latter call- led Jindalee. I was able to find information about this in wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jindalee_Operational_Radar_Network Looks like it's still operational, and likely what we may be hearing/seeing on the bands. There was no mention at all of China, which today, most people blame for the large number of broadband signals received, especially on the west coast of North America. Now doing more searches on wiki does indeed show the Far Eastern site as near Komsomolsk on Amur, and not Sakhalin at all. Furthermore, I think that the wiki has all sorts of errors. The giant arrays are described as antennas, but wasn't this the transmitter? The transmitter coordinates just show bunker like buildings without any kind of transmission device. Sure the transmitters had to be located somewhere, and these large buildings would fit the bill, but they had to then feed an array. There's no talk in the wiki about a site in western Ukraine, not far from Lviv, which I gather was one of the actual receiver sites. The google maps satellite pictures from the Far East certainly don't show the impressive array that is present near Chernobyl. There's also discussion about a site near Mykolaiv, in southern Ukraine. Again, the Google photos don't show much of anything left, but interestingly, there seems to be an Wullenweber array (or remnants) just north of the coordinates. I can't for the life of me understand how this site in southern Ukraine (indeed north of the Black Sea) would be used towards China! That surely doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Anyway, a fun stroll down memory lane on a Thursday summer evening! Comments welcome! (73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC via DXPlorer) Beer classic light Russian. During the Cold War, Radio Liberty was one of the main targets of Soviet intelligence, declassified documents show. In the work against American radio, not only KGB agents took part, but also the intelligence services of the Eastern Bloc states. Mediazona recalls the biography of Oleg Tumanov, editor of the Russian service of Radio Liberty, who worked for Moscow for 20 years. On February 14, 1986, Soviet intelligence lieutenant colonel Viktor Gundarev with his mistress and a seven-year-old child came to the US Embassy in Athens. Soon the defector was taken to the United States, before which the Greek police detained four "armed to the teeth" employees of the Soviet embassy, who were trying to intercept Gundarev at the building of the American mission. Almost two weeks later, the director of the Russian service of the publication called the security service of Radio Liberty, whose office was then located in Munich: one of the key employees was missing. Oleg Tumanov has not been in touch for more than a day, and in front of the closed door of his apartment, news bulletins have accumulated for several days, which were brought to the editor by the staff of Radio Liberty in the morning. On the same day, February 26, an employee who did not yet know about the disappearance got into the apartment - she brought the washed clothes to the editor. There was a mess inside: the kitchen was littered with unwashed dishes, the food left on the table was spoiled and smelled unpleasant. The pictures that hung on them disappeared from the walls. Tumanov was an avid photographer and collector, but his cameras were missing, and on one of the tables were empty albums for coins and stamps. Only old jackets and a few ties hung in the closets. There were no suitcases either. Two days before that, Tumanov took time off from work, citing poor health. The day before, on Sunday 23 February, a colleague who came to visit Tumanov heard a certain "Alex" call him and offered to meet "in Vienna at an auction." Later it turned out that before the disappearance of Tumanov, he had withdrawn a large sum of cash from his bank account - 20 thousand Deutschmarks ... At first, only music was on this wave, then newscasts were added every hour, then one after another entertaining and relevant programs began to appear. This process was somewhat delayed due to the coronavirus epidemic and all related phenomena. It is not easy to create a new radio station when thousands of companies and small businesses are closing down in the country. During the days of the most severe quarantine and during the indulgences, the construction of a new radio station continued on weekends and weekdays. While most Israeli companies were downsizing or closing because of the crisis, especially in the media sector, Best Radio was recruiting. All these months, programs were planned and discussed, a full-fledged program schedule was prepared from 7 am to 11 pm, which will be presented to the audience on August 2. "The Best Radio" is Israel's second regional station in Russian. It took 20 years until, at the end of 2019, a team of enthusiasts led by entrepreneur (and avid radio fan) Arik Nudelman obtained a license from the Second Broadcasting Directorate. "Best Radio" broadcasts from kibbutz Beit Keshet near Afula, where the "mother" radio station "Kol Rega", well known to the inhabitants of the north, is located. "Best of Radio" can be heard on FM north of the Netanya-Hadera line all the way to Metula. For the first time, residents of Haifa and Krayot, Gilboa and Carmel, Galilee and the Golan Heights will receive their own radio station, which will address them in Russian, speak on the most relevant topics, and provide a variety of entertainment content. newsru.co.il (http://onair.ru/main/enews/view_msg/NMID__77985/) WEB and TERRESTRIAL RADIO AND TV IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE ================================= Russia. In a recent e-mail he explains his policy, which was shared by for example BCE Luxembourg: "In my opinion it makes no sense to send reception reports using remote SDR receivers. I can check how the reception is in Twente easily myself. And I do rather often. So why tell me something I already know. [certainly a valid point, HjB] Knowing how you received WMR in Nürnberg on your own Grundig Satellit 3400 with its telescopic antenna (if you still have this) would however be interesting for me. [This reference to reports of the 90s shows that SHN does indeed keep a record of reception reports. HjB] DXing and QSLing is, as far as I see it, about making an achievement, catching distant radio stations on your own equipment (the radio you decided for and the aerial you erected) - not using someone's else's equipment in another country." There is quite a variety of approaches to QSLs, even automating them like World's Last Chance [9330 kHz] does. So this policy is to be respected, and maybe hopeful listener will provide a photo of their equipment used. I switched on a Dutch receiver to climb into the web sdr and ran into a frequency of 15510 kHz at 09.03 UTC. The broadcast consisted of pieces of different pop music for 10 seconds each and between them the text You are listening to a test transmission. Even less often, transmissiontest@gmail.com was transmitted. I checked this frequency through the Vinnitsa web sdr (closest to me), the signal was present, but weaker. But we failed to listen - at 09.13 UTC the signal turned off unexpectedly. I managed to make audio. Hello Anatol, Thank you for your report and I confirm the details are correct. These transmissions were to fault-find on a 250/300 kW sender at the UK HF transmitter station at Woofferton. These duration of these tests can be variable as the engineers can sometimes need a long time to establish a fault or they may interrupt the test, make an adjustment and resume. This is particularly so if the fault is of an intermittent nature. Encompass Digital Media, Woofferton is the only remaining UK HF sender broadcast station and also is the only one with this transmission test audio and email address. The audio is contained in a file play-out system and incorporates non-copyright music and voice announcements from one of the engineers, Martin 2E1EKX at the transmitter site.
