IRAN INTERNATIONAL TV Audio relay of this organisation is currently being
heard on 11560 kHz from 0730 UT and 6270 kHz from 1400 via 100 kW
transmitters in Armenia {or Tashkent Uzbekistan ?} as reported
by Ivo Observer in Bulgaria.

Monitoring January 2, 2020 from 18.30 UT I receive Radio Eli at a
frequency of 1035 kHz Estonia. At about 18.45 UTC in At the end of the
program, they announced that they would listen to the broadcast of TWR at
22.00 MSK at a frequency of 999 kHz in Moldova.

January 3. At 1035 kHz after 03.00 the program of TWR was transmitted
exactly. Today I got the impression that it started at 03:00 a.m., before
that there was no signal. I didn't detect a signal clearly, but until
03:00 hrs it was completely quiet, and now the transmission is not even at
the noise level, but stronger, everything can be well disassembled
(35442).
January 4. The transmission at 1035 kHz was stable until 03.35, after
which the signal began to disappear. At 03.57 (10.57 local time !!!) the
identification of TWR was made with the mention of a certain "Chistayay
Volna" ("Clean Wave"). At 04.03 hrs, the passage is still there! This is a
very good result, I would even say amazing.
At 04.28 (half past eleven in Tomsk) the passage to 1035 kHz is still
there !!!
That's cool. The same announcement was made about the programs prepared by
the TWR studio, broadcast on Clean Wave.

The announcement of TWR programs is something like this:

This ad seems to be just affiliate advertising. The programs themselves
are designed in a youth style and are completely different from TWR.
The guys sculpt the programs themselves. By the way, not all of them are
Christian: in the Dictionary of Vinaigrette today they discussed the
origin of the words Zamok and Zamok, emigration and immigration.

The St. Petersburg Trans World Radio studio has been closed since December
31, TSR programs on air at a frequency of 1035 kHz were only until January
1, 2020 of the year. The transmission "Silver" switched to a frequency of
999 kHz, and the recordings of the rest gears stop completely. TWR website
will continue to function, its will support the Krasnoyarsk TWR studio.
Letters and calls are accepted will not be at St. Petersburg addresses.
Part of the staff has already left St. Petersburg and departed to a new
place of service.
Everything else is not the products of St. Petersburg TWR studio, but the
recordings of others studios, probably they are paid by someone.

Hindi 1400-1430 UT is indeed still on air on all four SW frequencies
(with the slight reservation that I could at a glance not confirm the
program audio of the faint 5875 kHz signal here). A last minute reprive?
Or does the column about the supposed complete closure, published on
New Year's Eve, reflect some issue with internal communications
at the BBC?
By the way, HFCC shows that the BBC now has five frequency hours a day at
Santa Maria di Galeria. This time it would not be an airtime exchange but
indeed a lease for cash, something Radio Vatican refused to do until last
year.
In return the BBC withdrew all transmissions to Africa from Moosbrunn,
leaving only 90 minutes for Afghanistan there. I had no opportunity so far
to seek confirmations or denials for rumours that Moosbrunn could close
this year.

Welle 370, frequency 6145 kHz (via Tashkent), waited 49 days. It was
one-day special show on November 16; was broadcast, as I understand it,
radio performance of two actors "Die Arschkrampen - Radio Weltmission". On the
QSL are their faces. The card is generally perfect: thick cardboard, good
polygraphy. It's even a pity to put in a box. The station is based in a museum

Voice of Vietnam (VTM) - received four QSL cards for receiving Voice of Vietnam Radio in Russian in February, April,
July and November last year. In a letter to the last report on admission (via WebSDR Twente / NL, because of the
next problems with VOV reception) he reported that I did not receive a single confirmation for 2019. Editorial
response:
"... We apologize for the trouble. Honestly, we don't know that you haven't received a single QSL card from us at all,
since in fact we have already sent everything. Please send us all reports and we will send you again. Thank you for
your message ... "
It turns out that three envelopes (with one card inside) did not reach, and the fourth (with four) arrived in normal time -
48 days on the way from Hanoi.
QSL announced at the end of June with a new theme, Mua hoa cái (rape season), was not sent.

K. Chernushenko: Liberal mood has a strong influence on Christian short-wave broadcasting

In November 2019, Konstantin Chernushenko, the head of the Russian department of KNLS / MWV (World Christian
Broadcasting), traveled to Moscow. He met with some listeners from Central Russia and easily responded to a
request for a short interview for my blog.
- Konstantin, I will start with the general question of short-wave broadcasting. What is happening to him now?
- If you compare it with the 90s, then the interest and the amount of broadcasting in short waves has changed
downward. Perhaps in the 90s there was the greatest peak, the rise, especially in broadcasting to the Soviet Union.
But with the development of the Internet, it all fades a little. Gradually, gradually, but fades. We judge this even by the
number of letters we receive from listeners. That is, then in the 90s and now.
- How many messages are received today in paper and electronic form?
- Basically, 90 - 95% of letters are now in electronic form. Now only a few dozen letters arrive per month. But in the
90s there was a shortage of Christian literature, and since we have a Christian radio station, of course, we sent out
such literature and materials. In connection with this, a lot of requests were received. Because there was a shortage
here (in Russia), the market was not saturated with Christian literature, and then people mostly wrote to get this
Christian literature. Now the majority writes, for example, with gratitude that there is a broadcast either with a request
for a QSL card or with a little criticism so that they would like to see in our programs. In Russia, now everything is full
of Christian literature. Maybe someone is interested in the free Bible, but I think most already have it.
We still have an office in St. Petersburg, but it was slightly modified. Now there are also correspondence Christian
courses. That is, any person can write and they will send him a program how to study the Bible. This also contributes
to the fact that the flow of letters does not stop.
Our radio station is expanding now. We built a station in Madagascar and started broadcasting about two years ago.
They added to the station in Alaska, where there was broadcasting in English, Russian and Chinese, the Arabic
broadcasting department, Portuguese, which broadcasts to South America. We have Spanish and broadcast to
Europe and there are a couple of transmitters that we rent, from the Caribbean broadcast to South America. The
leadership plans to add a Korean department and maybe French. It will be analog broadcasting from Madagascar in
short waves, but in the long term. The idea is that remote regions are still poorly covered by the Internet. For
example, we broadcast in Brazil, but there are a lot of small towns where a good stream of letters is coming from.
But gradually broadcasting from short waves will go to the Internet.
- Can you name the dates?
- Gradually. Here we are gradually moving the Russian department to Internet broadcasting. Although we have
technical problems with this. Because of the equipment of a specific format that we have, and tailored to our station.
The recording system and the system for sending finished programs to the station is original. It takes a long time to
translate this to MP3 and post it on a website. We have financing, but it is a little late, and we look forward to our old
equipment. To transfer to a new one, a sufficiently large amount is needed.
Why is Internet broadcasting more promising? Because the cost of broadcasting in short waves is very high. In
Madagascar, we have diesel generators for broadcasting. You can't count on local electric networks. Constant power
outages. We had to buy diesel generators, and diesel is very expensive and therefore maintaining broadcasting costs
a lot of money. In Alaska, a little cheaper, because there is a connection to the public grid.
- In fact, your station surprised the audience when it added broadcasting in Russian from Madagascar, and then
added another hour of broadcasting.
- We have a website. We recently updated it. I tried to post as much information as possible about the history of the
creation of both KNLS and MWV. In the future we will try to broadcast simultaneously on the website with short
waves.
- Regarding the audience ... Do you see that the audience is changing? Are new people writing? Or is there only a
pool of regular listeners and that's it?
- Most of our listeners are from 40+, but young people also write. This ratio is 90% to 10%. This is noticeable in other
language sections. Let's say Chinese broadcasting or the Japanese. Here the latter write and there are a lot of them,
it's 60+. In Japan, listening to shortwave broadcasts is very developed. At the beginning of this year, by the way, I
went to Japan and found an amateur broadcasting league there. It turned out that five people work there full time and
they have many programs to attract new club members and they even carry out a joint project with the Japan Space
Agency. They launched a satellite with them and broadcasted from it. They told me why the Japanese are generally
interested in short waves. The very idea of Japan to have some interesting hobby and support it. It is believed that
someone from the older generation passes to the younger.

- When I started working in the 99th year, we had five people. Now there are two full-time people left and one
technician who records and sends the main equipment to the entire station, which it exports to Alaska or
Madagascar. We record programs in America.
By the way, until 2008, funding went well, but the crisis has undermined many radio stations in the United States.
- Probably, politics is also having an effect now. Say the differences between Russia and America?
Not. Now in America, you probably know, the media are being taken over by liberal movements, and America as a
whole is becoming more liberal. And we have a Christian radio station and it is supported by conservative people.
Conservatives are becoming less and less, and the support of our station is decreasing. This process is very fast,
especially in such western states as California, Arizona, Washington. This affects Christian radio stations, which are
funded by raising funds from churches and private Christian donors. But overall, the number of Christians in America
is decreasing, and the Americans themselves say that churches have become like interest clubs. That is, if a hundred
years ago they very strictly followed the canon, now everything is quite liberal. Therefore, the political differences
between the United States and Russia play a much smaller role or do not play at all compared with the differences
within the States themselves. The liberal mood has a very strong influence on Christian shortwave broadcasting.
- Now more and more stations are switching to electronic verification cards in order to save money. Have you thought
about this?
- There are enough funds for paper cards. But some listeners ask to send them a card in electronic form. And some
listeners simply do not get it. I send one, two ... and then I have to send it electronically. As far as I understand, many
listeners, and especially DX, are pleased to receive a paper card, and we are trying to update them. There was an
idea to send QSL directly from Madagascar, but I have not been able to get there yet, because the tickets are very
expensive. We also want to update souvenirs - pennants, mugs, badges, stationery.
- What response would you like to receive from the audience?
"For us as a whole, it means a lot if you send simple reports." They indicate the quality of reception, we can judge
where the broadcast is going. Most of the reports, by the way, are sent from Russia, many from Finland, Germany,
Italy, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, India, and Kazakhstan. You can, for example, establish a tradition and
meet once in a couple of years in Moscow for all DX-stations.
