I am subscribed to several forums based there, and they work perfectly, reliably. For those who use the mail client to send and read posts, practically nothing will change; We will try to make the settings for the group as a whole and for individual participants similar to the previous ones. The old yahoogroups forum will continue to exist, but I strongly recommend that everyone subscribe to the new one. There is no direct add function for free participants, so today I will send out invitations to everyone with the theme "Invitation to join the open-dx@groups.io group". For acceptance, you just need to respond to such an invitation ... Slight differences: - The name of the group is changing! Now it will be open-dx, as The system does not support underscores in names. You will see the address for sending messages in the welcome message. - As I understand it, messages with attachments will always be moderated, but this is better than the other 3 options (allow everything, block the attachment or block the entire message). If your file matches the theme of the group, sooner or later it will definitely get into it. - But for free groups, there is not much space on the site for content (attachments, files, photos), 1 GB for each type. What has been downloaded for a long time will automatically be deleted over time. - In the transition period, all participants are still moderated, but keep calm: I will try not to delay the return of your previous status. For me, the Groups.io system is new, so roughness is possible at first. For anyone who feels that something is not working, please write to your personal mail or to open-dx + owner [at] groups.io. We will solve problems as they arise. (Dmitry Mezin, Kazan, Russia / "open_dx") * Story. Radio station "Tikhiy Okean" ("Pacific Ocean"). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Pacific Ocean is a broadcasting radio station broadcasting from Vladivostok from 1963 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2008 at a frequency of 810 kHz in the medium wavelength range and at different times at frequencies of 12065 kHz, 17590 kHz, 9765 kHz, 5960 kHz, 7330 kHz in the range short waves, at a frequency of 66 MHz in the VHF band (in Vladivostok), as well as according to the 1st program of wire broadcasting (from the "radio point"). The broadcasting territory is the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the eastern sector of the Arctic is the main zone where the Far Eastern vessels traveled. The radio station was the only means of communication with the "Big Land". Transmission came out 3 times a day. The call sign of the radio station was the melody of the song "Along the valleys and on the hills." The news of the region and the country, as well as greetings of relatives, were broadcast on the air. Wives, mothers, children told the sailors about their life, about the life of the family and conveyed musical greetings. At the end of the transfer to the music of Paul Maria Melancolie Melody Lady it was reported in which ports the vessels of the Far Eastern Shipping Company are located or what course the planned arrival date is following. All had no time to share observations on Kyrgyzstan. Although he returned from there at the end of September. Was there as a tourist. I traveled around Issyk-Kul, visited the highlands too ... On the air I had three interests there. Firstly, I wanted to listen to TWR on 1467. In the suburbs, it is also heard sometimes, but everything is rather weak. There, of course, it rattles at 5 points. Secondly, I wanted to hear Sedaye Zindagi, a Christian station broadcasting to Afghanistan on 5130. I have never heard it in my area. But, unfortunately, they could not hear there either - complete silence. Thirdly, I wanted to monitor R. Afghanistan on 6100. It was possible. But also, I hear not by 5 points, but by the C grade. Moreover, I took them in the highlands, where there is no interference at all, since the yurt! And the gas generator has already been cut down. Only the sky, stars, yurt and clean ether. Yesterday I found their email, wrote that I listened to them. Most likely, there will be no answer, but such a mood was ... Let's see. I will add that I turned on the receiver only after the gas generator was turned off. This is at 22.30 local time (16.20 UTC). I listened only half an hour, in the light of the headlamp, then there was no more strength - I destroyed my dream ... (Vasily, Russia / "open-dx") - Sedaye Zindagi. I once read that this station works on 5130 only in the first two weeks of every month. I do not know if this information is true, maybe it's outdated. Meanwhile also routing for this "special broadcast" has been found: http://en.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=11096&pid=28&live=89&sec=0&lang=en The ID of this channel indicates that it was the feed for the Arabic broadcasts on 630 and 1062 kHz, which apparently have been discontinued recently. THE FEDERAL ANTIMONOPOLY SERVICE IN 2018 EXAMINED MORE THAN 15000 ALLEGATIONS OF ILLEGAL ADVERTISING. This was reported by Tatyana Nikitina, head of the FAS advertising and unfair competition control department. According to Nikitina, the service issued 1477 decisions on administrative fines. The total amount of punishments exceeded 78 million rubles, the FAS said. She noted that one of the most frequent violations was an advertisement on the radio, in which important information was voiced literally as a tongue twister: so fast that it was impossible to make out what was said. In particular, in the advertisement of apartments in a residential complex on Vesti FM, the mandatory information about the project declaration and the name of the developer was spoken out in four seconds at a very high speed. In addition, Nikitina talked about violations from the side that distributed their advertising in electronic media. According to the law, such advertising can be placed only in publications with a sports specialization. She also recalled that in November 2018, pharmaceutical and marketing companies, together with the FAS, developed recommendations for compliance with legislation on the advertising of OTC drugs. "The recommendations have become another mechanism of self-regulation for market participants, and we hope that their application will reduce the amount of state control in the industry," Nikitina said. Earlier, Deputy Head of the FAS Russia Andrei Kashevarov noted that since the start of work on the project, manufacturing companies have changed their approaches to advertising creativity, and the central office of FAS Russia has not recorded a single violation in the advertising of OTC drugs. pravo.ru http://onair.ru/main/enews/view_msg/NMID__75046/ (via Rus-DX 6 October via DXLD) ** RUSSIA [and non]. WORLD OF UTILITIES, with Gilles Letourneau Aside from broadcast stations and amateur radio communications, the HF radio spectrum is predominantly occupied by utility stations. They can be either voice transmissions or any of a variety of digital modes used for HF communications. This column will feature tips on what you can hear, frequencies and bands to receive them, what you'll need to receive them, the modes of transmission they use, publications and web resources to help identify them and guidance on equipment and software that is available to decode them. Welcome to the October column. The weather is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter and that means more time on the radio indoors. This month we'll look at something that's very mysterious, and we'll try to find out more about the Russian CW or Morse Code letter markers that operate on the shortwave radio bands. They are scattered all around, most of the time sending one-letter for hours, days and years, but not a lot is known about them. We'll list some frequencies and all the information that is available on them here this month. I'll also discuss a little trick at the end of the column on how I not only verified that the stations I mention here are on the air but also how to receive them if you can't get them on your radio at home. Stations sending these letters use low power and can be a real challenge to receive. WHAT ARE THEY? Letter beacons are radio transmissions of uncertain origin and unknown purpose, consisting of only a single repeating Morse code letter. They have been classified into several groups according to transmission code and frequency, and it is supposed that the source for most of them is Russia. It's widely believed that the actual purpose of these transmissions are for propagation conditions monitoring, but it's also believed according to some literature that they could be used to maintain active frequencies for the Russian army, in case of war or missile launches. These frequencies could then be alive with signals that would be related to military purposes. According to a report in a PDF document from the Numbers and Oddities website, the cluster beacons are the property of the Russian Navy. Over the years, many bizarre ideas did pop up, including signals that would track the location of UFO's. Another that was very popular for a while was that when all the beacons stop it would be mean that the nuclear missiles would be launched against an enemy. Over the years it happened many times that the beacons stopped transmitting and nothing bad happened. These radio transmissions were discovered in the late 1960s. Their presence became known to the wider amateur radio community in 1978, when beacon "W" started transmitting on 3584 kHz in the 80 meter band. There is indirect evidence that this transmitter was in Cuba. In 1982 there were also reports, supposedly based on HF direction finding by the US military, that beacon "K" transmitting on 9043 kHz was located at 48°30′N 134°58′E, near the city of Khabarovsk in the USSR. A few years later, it was suggested that the "K" beacons were located at Petropavlovsk on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the "U" beacons were located at the Barents Sea coast, between Murmansk and Amderma. According to D.W. Schimmel, in 1986 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released the following HF direction finding results for single letter beacons, all of which indicate locations in the USSR. TYPES The single letter beacons can be classified into two groups, "cluster beacons" and "channel markers". A beacon "P" exists in both groups. A group of radio beacons with single-letter identifiers ("C", "D", "M", "S", "P", "A", "M" and "K") have been regularly reported near 3594, 4558, 5154, 7039, 8495, 10872, 13528, 16332 and 20048 kHz. The term "cluster beacons" is frequently used for them, as they transmit in parallel on frequencies only 0.1 kHz apart. These beacons transmit only their single-letter identifier in standard CW (A1A) using Morse code. More information can also be found at the Numbers and Oddities website that has this excellent PDF document on the channel markers: http://www.numbersoddities.nl/MX-profile.pdf Note that even though the PDF dates back to 2012, most of the information is still valid as of 2019; it is important to note that most transmissions are Morse Code CW but that some form of PSK, RTTY and other types of transmissions have been received at times on the frequencies noted. FREQUENCIES The Following frequencies have been taken from the excellent http://eibispace.de/ Website list of schedules for Shortwave transmissions, if you have not checked this out, please do, it's one of the best resources for not only International broadcasters times and frequencies but also some utilities and as you see here even CW channel markers from Russia. 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker A -CW RUS 3594as 4558as 5154as 7039as 7509as 8495as 10872as 13528as 16332as 20048as 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker C -CW RUS 3594m 4558m 5154m 7039m 7509m 8495m 10872m 13528m 14401m 16332m 20048m 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker D -CW EEu 3593se 4557se 5153se 7038se 7508se 8494se 10871se 13527se 16331se 20047se 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker F -CW FE 3594vl 4558vl 5154vl 7039vl 8495vl 10872vl 13528vl 16332vl 20048vl 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker K -CW FE 3594as 4558as 5154as 7039as 8495as 10872as 13528as 16332as 20048as 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker L -CW RUS 3168pt 5156pt 6917pt 8497pt 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker M -CW FE 3594mg 4558mg 5154mg 7039mg 8495mg 9116mg 10872mg 13528mg 16332mg 20048mg 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker P -CW RUS 3593kl 4557kl 5153kl 7038kl 8484kl 8494kl 10871kl 13527kl 16331kl 20047kl 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker R -CW RUS 4326iz 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker S -CW RUS 3593sm 4557sm 5153sm 7038sm 7508sm 8494sm 10871sm 13527sm 16331sm 20047sm 0000 2400 RUS Channel Marker W -CW RUS 8029xx 8112xx 8162xx LOCATION Where are the stations located in Russia? It's quite difficult to receive them in some parts of the world. I believe I have heard them only once or twice over the past 20 years while tuning around the bands. I have received many of them using online Software defined receivers that are scattered around the world. Most of the time I will tune one in countries that are not too far from the station locations. One great place to listen is the Utwente SDR out of the Netherlands; very sensitive, low noise and accepts hundreds of listeners at the same time. You can tune in here: http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ You can also use the list of Kiwi SDR's that are available and select the one you want to listen to. They are not all equal. Some are less sensitive and some suffer from high noise levels. Go through the list and try receiving the CW markers through different receivers. It's also fun to compare reception in different places https://sdr.hu/ (Oct CIDX Messenger via DXLD) ** UZBEKISTAN. "For simple items" Russian Post "is not responsible!" ============================================= Comments from the group "deneb-radio-dx" - Russian Post - works or not? Dear colleagues, The question to all of us is how do we evaluate the work of Russian Post? In the cities, answer me! (Konstantin Barsenkov, St. Petersburg, Russia) - Voronezh PR works, but not all departments perform their duties efficiently. In the center, it's more or less normal, where the rat is currently working - parcels packed in cardboard are opened, some things disappear. Just yesterday, another letter from KBS came with qslkami and as usual openly, they no longer try to seal the valve back. In his second hobby - collecting metal-plastic (copper crosses and icons), he learned the rule that whatever comes up should be packaged in a plastic envelope, the dispatch should be placed between the layers of cardboard and wrapped tightly with tape. And send only by registered mail or first class. (Simakhin Denis, Voronezh, Russia) - It is impossible to determine at what stage of delivery something disappears, who opens it and where. Parcels from Aliexpress arrive to me in Irkutsk regularly, nothing was lost, nothing was opened. A couple of times, however, fragile investments were broken. And for two years in a row, the wall calendar from Radio Japan has not reached it. The last time he lay at the post office for 6 months, until one day they accidentally told me that they say, why aren't you taking it? Although paper notifications did not come. (Fedor Brazhnikov, Irkutsk, Russia) - Random people who couldn't get anywhere to work work for PR. People are constantly changing. Salaries of the lowest level, which works directly with customers and mail, are not higher than 10000-15000 rubles. Now I looked at the vacancies, so the salary is not indicated anywhere. Apparently ashamed to write. I found that the salary of the CHIEF OF MAIL in the region is 10000 rubles. It is very significant that the head of the PR is a kid who did not play enough apparently in his childhood, and now decided to deliver mail by quadrocopters. We all saw the disgrace on TV. Then Matvienko baked him. What is pop - such is the parish. If you want guarantee delivery, then send by registered mail with the track. There is no guarantee for incoming if there is no track code. Simple letters, if not opened, then thrown out. Not all of course, but full of examples. (Pavel Ivanov, Belgorod, Russia) - In Togliatti, my mail 445042 began to work disgustingly. Letters lie for a long time and do not deliver to recipients. They say that there is no one to work. But the BANK of RUSSIA Post and a grocery store appeared at the post office. Areas allow, but with the main function of mail is a mess. The Russian Post will soon have an innovation, they should be dressed in uniform. The form looks like a fascist. Maybe for the better. People will know their enemies by clothing ... (Alexander Golovikhin, Tolyatti, Russia) - I also have my own relations with Russian Post. Firstly, my post office works on a terrible schedule, from 9.00 to 18.00 (!) Monday through Saturday. On Saturday - until 17.00. Just for most people working hours too. Secondly, despite the fact that I have a near Moscow suburbs, the wages of workers are from 6500 to 18000 rubles. Postmen just - 6500 rubles. The job is constant, mostly drunk people work as postmen, sorry ... I used to write something out of newspapers home, but then I realized that there was no guarantee of receipt, I was convinced myself. I realized that it's easier to buy a newspaper in the morning than to wait for its delivery. And there was no guarantee that she would be in the mailbox. As for letters, the probability of receiving is about 80 percent :-( Most often, opened letters come from South Korea and Taiwan. Looks like one of the workers collects postcards or pennants too :-) Many times I asked the station to resend confirmations, since there were generally deafly. Yes, and they also say a wonderful phrase in my mail (it seems that they have already signed up for their cerebellum!): "The Russian Post is not responsible for simple items!" :-) Shipments from "Aliexpress" reach 95 percent. It happens that I'll write about a refund and get it, and then suddenly from the box I will get :-( (Sergey Shokhin, Selyatino, Moskovskaya oblast, Russia) - The postman rate in Saratov is 10000 rubles per site, so according to the head of the site no one is going to work. But I realized that everything depends on a particular person. The new postman, although serving three sites, still goes to the house once or twice a week, but at least the letters do not disappear. The previous Madame simply scored for work and did not even take the bags in the compartment. + My post office is, without exaggeration, a joke! I went to pick up the parcel from Japan, which entered the department on October 11th. And on the night of October 11- 12, a heating pipe burst in the mail room (at the time the heating was turned on at the beginning of the winter season). After that they were closed for 10 days. Moreover, they did not even hang an ad on the door. Yesterday was my third attempt to pick up the parcel, but the department employee could not find it. Now you have to write a search application through the sender and wait for the refund. That's how Russian Post works in the 21st century! (Dmitry Elagin, Saratov, Russia) - Postmen do not work well in Ryazan. For example, in April he was among the winners of the Sunday Magazine quiz on KBS World Radio. But the prize never got. No one brought a notification to my inbox. Maybe the postman was mistaken, dropped into another box, maybe something else ... But because of such trifles, the impression of the work of the mail is formed. And if earlier they brought the initial notice, the recipient could not pick up the parcel or letter, then they brought the second notice. Now this is not there, sheer savings ... (Dmitry Kutuzov, Ryazan, Russia) - Apparently, I am destined to be in the role of a "white crow" in this discussion - I made the porridge myself, and dissipate it myself. I have long been interested in the issue of the work of the Russian Post. Recently I received an envelope from Japan (NHK World Radio Japan) - only the country, zip code and city were indicated (+ full name) - street, house and apartment number are not indicated by the sender (NHK Bengal service) - added with a fountain pen in Russian! I called the post office, asked: "How is it possible to deliver a letter without an address?" - the girl's response: "Apparently, you are our regular customer, and the postman filled in the delivery address herself." He asked me to say "thank you," they clarified my address - from whom, the girl promised to convey my thanks. I am not a client - i.e. I'm not crying for anything. The postman walks regularly from Mon to Sat in the morning, all the letters that should be in the mailbox arrive, notifications of registered letters and parcels came even repeatedly. How to understand such a difference in the work of Russian Post in our country? Maybe someone from St. Petersburg will still respond? Petersburg DX Club - where is everything? (Konstantin Barsenkov, St. Petersburg, Russia) - No confirmation came from Deutscher Vetterdinst, although Herr Wilfredd assured that qsl was sending, but was not sending again. I understand and believe him. Sorry. that in the end I won't get confirmation, although I attached the video file ... From MRTaiwan periodically no confirmation comes. This is not the first time that letters have been sent to my address to the address of another organization or person living in the neighboring house, and passing by the mail, leaving this correspondence to their employees, with the corresponding explanation, they will not even thank you for correcting their jamb, although this can change the life of the latter, the latter seems to have come from the court - "Russian service". Regarding Ali-Express, I ordered inexpensive headphones, they didn't come, but I returned the money. And having visited a rock concert I got such a thing as a gift, but better. In the department; to the question "is there still my name / address?" - "they don't find anything", then in a week or 10 days they arrive letters stamped three four days earlier than the date question (they say that one postman does not have time, and the other thumps). (Victor Varzin, Leningradskaya oblast, Kommunar, Russia) - At me in Moscow, on my postal station the mail does not work well. Often letters disappear. I don't know for what reason and where, since nevertheless the writing path goes through several nodes where it is processed. There are many examples, but I will give only one - Voice of Vietnam - the Russian edition. I sent them letters monthly and in 10 months received only one letter! Two gifts that they sent for participating in their competitions were lost. After that, a person simply gives up and he no longer writes to radio stations. It is unfortunate, but the post office works to make the person spoiled and displace him from his favorite hobby, in order to interrupt his established contacts with radio stations of the world. After the departure of Russian radio stations from the Far East, North and East bands, now the post office began to do a lot to deprive of communication with the world. (Anatoly Klepov, Moscow, Russia) - The first Russian Post drone fell shortly after launch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIofXY86esc&feature=youtu.be (Pavel Ivanov, Belgorod, Russia) - I recalled a case, but not connected with the Russian post. In the 90s there was a radio station that was broadcasting from Sierra Leone. She was pretty well heard and I decided to send a report on admission. I found the mailing address, made a report, put in a postcard and one dollar to pay for the answer. Sent. As luck would have it, at that moment a war began in this country. He said goodbye to the hope of receiving confirmation, and the dollar was a pity. It has passed, I don't remember so much time, and suddenly I get my letter that I sent it to Sierra Leone, back. The whole envelope was stamped! The letter was sent from one African country to another. As a result, the letter was returned to the sender. The envelope was not opened and the dollar did not go anywhere. Sorry did not leave the envelope in memory. So much for Africa! (Dmitry Mezin, Kazan, Russia / "open-dx") * Traurige Nachricht - Sad event - In memory of Rudolf Takacs --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I learned from Istvan Hegedüs in Hungary that the long-standing Romanian DXer Rudolf Takacs on 21 October 2019 died at the age of 76 years. He was a Dxer since 1962 and one of the founding members of the Association of DX'ers of Romania in 1984. He was thrilled by the DX hobby to the end. In the same mail Istvan writes me that a few months ago the Hungarian DXer Istvan Kiss died... - - In memory of Rudolf Takacs It was sad news when I got the message that a well-known DXer passed away on the 21st of October 2019 at the age of 76 years. Rudolf Takacs lived in Romania, most of his time in the city of Timisoara. He began as a reception HAM, in 1959 he passed the exams for transmission but he never asked for the authorization. He was more interested for the reception and the study of the propagation. Since 1962 he was a broadcast DXer. He discovered this site of the hobby when Radio Prague tested a new transmitter asking for reception report. He was very astonished when he got a QSL. Getting courage he tried also with other stations. In the sixties he became member in some DX-clubs of radio stations like Radio Berlin International, Radio Budapest Shortwave club, Radio Canada Shortwave club, Radio Portugal DX club, Radio Prague Monitor Club, Radio RSA Monitoring Panel, Radio Club de Amis de Radio Nederland. He contributed also to different DX Programmes like Sweden Calling DXers Bulletin, Radio Budapest and others. It was in June 1979 when he wrote me for the first time after he found my address in the bulletin of the Radio Budapest Shortwave Club. We exchanged our thoughts and information about DXing by writing and by phone and after we moved in 1980 both to Timisoara (Temesvar), Rudi from Resita and I from Brasov (Brasso) we visited one another for many times. Then in 1984 we founded together with other 2 DXer from Romania "The Association of Dxer of Romania". It wasn't easy to have such an organization in a communist dictatorship. The Romanian secret police cast their eyes on us, and put us under pressure to make some compromises, like not using the name of our association in our bulletin. Even after I left Romania in 1991 we maintained contact by writing and the rare occasions when visited Temesvar I visited also Rudi at his home. As he was of Hungarian nationality he had also contact to some Dxers from Hungary. In the nineties he became also a member of World DX Club in England and contributed for several times to their publication "Contact" magazine. All the years he had to share his time of DXing with his job and his family. After he got sick in 2007 he continued with DXing, though it was difficult for him with the treatment and its adverse reactions he get for the cancer. From his writings I often saw the hope of getting better but sometimes he wrote that he thought he would not reach the next day. I would not close these lines before mentioning a strange coincidence. In 2011 he wrote me in an email that he was very happy getting a QSL from the well known Russian DXer Mikhail Timofeyev, who confirmed all receptions of stations in St. Petersburg. Both Rudolf and Mikhail died in the same year 2019. (Wolfgang Bueschel, Germany) 73!
